Roman Beer, one of the most influential heads of the eV, announced his retirement as head of the football department in the summer.

In an interview, he reveals why.

Mr. Beer, are you tired of your lions?

Beer:

That's out of the question.

Mostly for personal reasons: I became a father a good year ago and would like to spend more of my free time after work and at the weekend with my family.

And for the FA (= soccer department/ed.) it's definitely good to let new people in.

You're only 42.

Beer:

Yes, but many processes are repeated, for example the constant topic of finances.

At some point the air will be gone, that's probably quite normal after 20 years in various honorary posts around 1860. I see a great chance that a fresh breeze will come in.

I see a great chance that there will be a breath of fresh air.

Roman Beer, 42, outgoing football department head of TSV 1860 eV.

Her passion has always been her own offspring – and the topic of the stadium.

Beer:

Although only the first has to do with my honorary function in the FA.

We are very well positioned when it comes to our own offspring and are at the top of the 3rd division - in autumn we can expect a large amount from the DFB funding pot (of the total of EUR 2.95 million/red.).

From the point of view of the 3rd division, it is a bit sad that two talents used by the professionals are enough: Niklas Lang and Fabian Greilinger;

other talents like Leo Morgalla only have a few minutes - and players like Hiller, Dressel, Tallig or Belkahia are not counted because they were over 21 years old on July 1st.

And as far as the stadium expansion is concerned?

Beer:

If requested, I'll get involved with words and deeds, but it's not as if I'm immediately aiming for the next position.

You're still a fan, aren't you?

Beer:

(laughs)

Of course.

Since I was able to recover, I've been in the curve at my regular seat for most games.

I will continue to attend general meetings but without the time commitment before and after the event.

From summer on, family comes first.
