About a week and a half after his freak out at the ATP tournament in Acapulco, Mexico, the German tennis star Alexander Zverev was given an eight-week suspended ban.

In addition, the third in the world rankings was fined an additional $ 25,000 – also on probation – as the ATP announced.

This means that Zverev is not allowed to commit another violation that leads to a fine for unsportsmanlike conduct until February 22, 2023 - one year after the incident.

Zverev can appeal the results of the investigation until Friday.

After a defeat in doubles in Acapulco, the 24-year-old hit his racket several times against the referee's chair, on which the referee was still sitting.

Previously, he had also apparently called the referee "damn idiot".

Williams didn't go far enough with the penalty

Zverev's behavior caused loud criticism in tennis - this also applies to the reaction of the tennis organization ATP.

Because although he was disqualified from the individual competition and had to pay a $40,000 fine, among other things, the punishment for top stars like Serena Williams didn't go far enough: "I would probably have been in jail if I had done that," she said.

After freaking out, Zverev returned to the pitch last week.

He led the German Davis Cup team to a 3-1 victory in Brazil.

After that, Zverev complained about boos and insults from the audience.
