Wartenberg – The over 50s among us know Snezka mainly from advertising.

A woman's voice advertised organic products in the Echo in the 1980s.

The Schneekoppe is the highest mountain in the Giant Mountains and since last weekend the place where Christiane Santen has achieved her greatest skiing success to date.

The 51-year-old from Wartenberg won the World Cup slalom in the Masters class after traveling 550 kilometers.

The competition took place in Pec pod Snezkou in the Czech Republic.

"The course was difficult and had a lot of turns," says Santen.

Or in other words: just right for her.

Santen coped very well on the hard and well-prepared slope and set a best time of 46.45 seconds.

Top favorite Dagmar Tumova fared less well.

The Czech already threaded in in the first round and was out of the race.

Santen showed no nerves in the second run either, crossed the finish line in 55.77 seconds and increased her lead to over two seconds.

With a total time of 1:42.22 minutes, she not only won her age group, but was also the fastest of the 20 runners overall.

The next day she made it to third place in her age group in the giant slalom.

That matched the good image given by the German squad, which came with 24 drivers.

"This is now the best starting position for the World Championships in St. Moritz," says the woman from Wartenberg.

The Alpine World Championships in the Masters class begin on March 14th.
