Grafing/Vuokatti

– Exciting days lie ahead for Katharina Ulrich from EHC Klostersee.

The 16-year-old short tracker is part of Germany's squad for the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), which begins today in Vuokatti, Finland.

On Friday evening, the ice racer had to attend an honoring event: During the first third break of the playoff game against Amberg, EHC Klostersee honored the B-Junior for her triumph at the German Championships in Rostock over 500 meters and in the all-around.

She was allowed to do a lap of honor over the ice.

"It was very exciting to do a few laps in front of so many people," said the 16-year-old.

"I am honored that the ice hockey board also recognizes the achievements of our short track department.

I am proud to compete for the EHC.”

Saturday morning we went to Munich Airport and off to Finland.

Surprise one: She was allowed to sit unexpectedly in business class, booked by the DOSB.

Surprise two: And that with her well-known companion, her mother and EHC division manager Renate Ulrich.

She was only informed by the association on Friday that the national coaches stayed at home because they tested positive.

So Renate Ulrich (“I got a little run over”) was on the plane to Finland as the supervisor of the German short trackers – and Kathi.
