Has Turkey's adventure already ended for Mesut Özil?
The ex-DFB star has been suspended by his club Fenerbahce Istanbul.
Istanbul – from the former beacon of hope to the scapegoat: Mesut Özil has apparently been sidelined at Fenerbahce Istanbul*.
The former German national team midfield star has been suspended by his club, as has team-mate Ozan Tufan.
The top Turkish club has not yet provided any information about the background, but there are indications that the 33-year-old will no longer appear for the traditional club from the metropolis of millions.
"Our A-Team players Mesut Özil and Ozan Tufan have been released," reads an official statement on social networks, without further information.
Özil has been under contract with the 28-time national champion since January 2021, having previously played for many years in the Premier League at Arsenal London*.
Mesut Özil suspended from Fenerbahce Istanbul - problems with coach Kartal?
The former Germany international was substituted at half-time in last weekend's 2-1 win over Konyaspor, and his relationship with coach Ismail Kartal is considered strained overall, according to Turkish media.

that Özil was dissatisfied with the decision - and received support from fellow player Tufan.
As a result, the coach allegedly complained to the club management about the behavior of the two players.
