Bayern league club VfB Hallbergmoos had to cancel a training session this week because of too many positive tests.

– Since the winter break, VfB Hallbergmoos has performed well in the Bayernliga, but now they have reached a critical phase.

After two decent games, the reward was missing with one point from two games, while the competitors scored to an alarming extent.

Before the guest appearance at VfR Garching (Sunday, 3 p.m.), Corona also hit hard.

But you have to step up and make the best of the modest situation.

During the week, the Hallbergmooser recorded a few corona cases, as well as other ailing players with symptoms who are waiting for test results.

The situation was so extreme that coach Matthias Strohmaier canceled Wednesday training for safety reasons.

The healthy players were sent to run individually.

He emphasized that the responsibility for the health of the players also comes first at a Bayern league club: "Even if we are very ambitious, it's still amateur football."

For the match on Sunday in Garching, VfB, which has slipped to the penultimate place in the league, has also explored the option of a transfer, but that is practically impossible.

Legally you have no chance because injured and Corona negative kickers are considered operational.

So the Hallbergmooser have to compete and will also send the majority of the previous starting team onto the field.

It is also clear that it will be pretty thin, especially with the alternatives on the bench, and there will probably be a number of guest players from the second team.

"We remain combative, no matter who is on the pitch," says Matthias Strohmaier, "we want to show that we are right now." The coach stands for commitment and fighting spirit, which can also be shown in this game.

The tactical route will only be determined shortly after the results of the latest series of corona tests have been established.

For the VfB coach, the game in Garching is a return to the past.

He was once a classmate of Garching coach Nico Basta at school, assistant coach Alban Zinsou was once the coach of Garching's young coach Basta at FC Schwabing.

Matthias Strohmaier made his first coaching step with the Garchingers as a playing assistant coach.

He is looking forward to returning to his former club, the separation at the time went without any problems.

Return to old place of work

In the 2019/21 season, Garching was relegated from the regional league and then made several changes in the squad during the various lockdowns.

Strohmaier would only have liked to be able to return to his old place of work under better conditions.

He himself would have liked to play, but has to pass due to muscular problems.
