With an intensive training camp on Mallorca, the athletes of the RSC Elkofen find their way back to normal.

Elkofen

– Among cyclists, Mallorca is no longer an insider tip for spring tours.

The sunny island has almost become a Mecca for two-wheelers - more ambitious and

more professional.

"Malle" was also the goal for RSC Elkofen to prepare their legs for the coming tasks of the season.

Twelve RSC cyclists between the ages of 25 and 60 stayed for a week in the north of the island.

The program included a daily excursion that was quite a challenge, as confirmed by Sonja Haslbeck, chairwoman of the cycling club.

Tours with many meters of altitude and lasting five to six hours were tackled day after day.

The weather didn't necessarily ensure that the cyclists had a lot to laugh about.

"In any case, I took my sunscreen home with me without using it," said Haslbeck, laughing.

Haslbeck reveals that the fact that a group with such different capabilities as the Elkofener can be on the road together "can be easily controlled via distance and intensity".

When things went particularly hard uphill, competitive riders like division manager Andreas Bartmann were well ahead of the majority of the group at the summit.

"He then simply turned around, met the slower rest and then rode up the mountain with them again." In this way, he and a few other Elkofeners brought together "about 700, 800 kilometers during their stay, despite the challenging terrain", estimated Haslbeck, The basis for the season beginning with the changeover to daylight saving time would have been laid.

"Then regular training starts again," says Haslbeck: "Back to normal."

After two years of corona-related restrictions and race cancellations, we are now cycling together again on Wednesdays and Fridays, starting at 6 p.m.

There is an innovation at RSC Elkofen for the regular Saturday trips, which are now planned a week in advance.

The length of the route and the degree of difficulty are fixed in advance, so that everyone knows what to expect and whether their individual condition can handle it.
