More than 40 years after the last Formula 1 races in Las Vegas, the racing series is returning to the gambling metropolis in 2023, the race track runs through the city. There is a dual strategy behind this.

Formula 1 is expanding in the USA and will host a third race in Las Vegas from the 2023 season.

The Grand Prix is to take place in November as a night race.

Two Formula 1 races were held in Las Vegas in 1981 and 1982.

"This is an incredible moment for Formula 1. A third race shows the huge appeal and growth of our sport in the United States," said Formula 1 Managing Director Stefano Domenicali.

Similar to Monaco, the route in Las Vegas should run through the city and also lead over the world-famous »Strip« entertainment mile.

It will be 6.12 kilometers long and contain 14 corners and three long straights, which should allow speeds of over 342 km/h.

In order to position Formula 1 even better in the American market alongside the races in Austin and Miami, procedures that have been set in stone for decades are being discarded: the race will be held on a Saturday evening instead of the traditional Sunday.

International competition reduces opportunities for German racetracks

Since the American media company Liberty Media took over Formula 1 in January 2017, it has continued to establish the racing series, especially on the US market.

The concept also includes the Netflix series »Drive to survive«, which was launched this year with its fourth season.

Whether and which races could be omitted for the Las Vegas course is open.

This year alone, until the Russian race was canceled due to the war in Ukraine, 23 Grand Prix were planned, more than ever before.

Since Liberty's entry, Formula 1 has been pursuing a double strategy: on the one hand, it is aimed at a younger audience, particularly the American market.

On the other hand, it tries to maximize profits by expanding into the Arab world.

The last five multi-season races have all been held in the Middle East (Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi).

A lot of money can be made here.

According to dpa, Saudi Arabia should pay 900 million euros for ten years.

A return of German tracks on the racing calendar, such as the Nürburgring or the Hockenheimring, seems impossible for the time being with this competition.
