Washington trains ahead of game against Chicago (Washington Wizards Official Twitter)

The Lakers' nightmarish season received another seal tonight (Friday through Saturday) in the form of the dramatic 114:11 home loss to Charlotte in a game that was critical when it came to the fight for entry into the playoffs.

In light of San Antonio's victory, it seems that Frank Vogel's team is on its way to finishing the season outside of the playoffs as well, two games away from tenth place, with five games left to play until the end of the regular season before the post-season begins.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis returned to play after a lengthy absence and scored 61 points in common, but King James did not really reach the decisive moments and missed a three in the end that could have sent the game into overtime.

Davis completed just his 37th game tonight for the Lakers, with the LeBron-Davis-Westbrook trio collaborating on just 21 games this season out of 77.

"Looking at the big picture, it was a game we had to win, and we did not do the job," LeBron said at the end of the frustrating loss.

Lakers coach Frank Vogel added that "it will be difficult to overtake New Orleans now because of the victory gap between us and also because of the advantage they have in the balance between the two teams."

However, the sage coach said that "we have enough time to win as many games as possible to possibly overtake San Antonio."

Still, sipping on a dismal evening in terms of result, LeBron continues to produce historic numbers.

The star has completed a fifth game in a row with 35 points or more, when it is only the second time in his career that he has managed to produce such a streak.

The previous time was in the 2005-06 season, so he did so for nine games in a row - when he was 21 years old.
