Where would FC Moosinning and football in the district be without Karl Thumbs?

Dieter Priglmeir collected some anecdotes about the FCM boss in the sports whisper for the weekend.

Who has turned the clock?

Certainly not Karl Thumbs, at most he shoots them from the ceiling.

But I don't want to get on his nerves with that now, after all he's celebrating his anniversary.

Mister FC Moosinning turned 60 on Thursday.

The celebration is on today.

There will surely be some old stories unearthed.

For example the bet he had with the fur innkeeper.

Really run, because it was about who circled the old Moosinninger soccer field ten times faster.

Thumbs was allowed to take turns with his friend Bepperl Romir, the "Pelz" Hans, the fittest Moosinninger ever, gave a damn about a relay brother.

Half the village watched with music and draft beer as the youngsters won - and then had a year's free bill at the Schnitzel-Wirt.

Thumbs had been preparing for this for weeks.

"And he was lucky that Hans was still weak because of the flu," says Helmut Huber, who was there live at the time.

In any case, he has been a companion for decades.

Five years ago they trained the A youth together.

"With me loser I'll record it no oiwei." That's how Thumbs motivated the boys,

then gave the classic libero in the training game - "and tore a fiber after five minutes," says Huber, but also emphasizes "that Karl was a gifted footballer".

What Eicke Lenz also confirms: "Anyone who is already playing in the national league at the age of 19 cannot be a casual person."

Incidentally, the promotion celebration at that time ended differently for the youngster than for the veterans.

While the Lanzingers, Eschbaumers, Krohs and Hiltmairs slept off their hangovers by the pond after a night of drinking, the poor young fellow was tweaking iron in the Humplmair workshop, where he had a holiday job.

"There he was in the heat," Eschbaumer recalls, "and we were sunbathing."

Others celebrate and he works - this continued later when Thumbs ran the Sportcafé Riff.

"President and restaurateur at the same time, as far as I know, there was only one such thing in Germany: Karl-Heinz Wildmoser with the lions," says Wast Held, "and that fits, because Karl is also a fervent lion fan."

Like son Bene, by the way, who says that only one person has nothing to smile about in Sechzger games: "My Ma." Since she came into the room at that moment when the lions conceded a goal, she has been considered unlucky, which is why the gentlemen Thumbs prefers to watch the games without them.

So san's the sixties.

Albert Gröber even calls his friend a "dark blue", praises his footballing class ("Brilliant midfield strategist. He put the ball in my head perfectly."), but also the qualities as a carter, where he showed not only his finesse but also his stamina.

"Once we played so long that we couldn't remember who dealt the cards last," says Gröber.

There was only one trick left: "The giver then always put on a white hat that my wife had taken out of the carnival chest beforehand."

But even at this moment, Peter Werndl would not underestimate his presence - with good reason.

“Once there was an empty chair in the Schafkopf round on the reef.

So I sat down.” Five minutes later he was a good 50 euros poorer.

"I wouldn't necessarily quibble or wad against Karl." Apart from that, the FCM veteran only has good things to say about "my foster father, who raised me to the first when I was 16 and always supported me, even during long periods of injury".

There are many examples of how Thumbs lives the FCM.

What he likes best is the picture of the FCM boss pushing the sprinkler system over the system.

"We had training and suddenly he appeared with his tin box to do something good for the pitch." According to Werndl, the fact that the entire FCM is doing so well is mainly due to the boss, who has the gift

bring all the volunteers together.

"Master of diplomacy", Werndl calls him.

Although: Thumbs can also knock you out, as Schwaig's former football boss Toni Scheckenhofer remembers.

After a test match, which FCM won hands down, the club manager said: "You'll never see Schwaig win against us." It actually happened in the first league game.

Schwaig was now also ahead of the FCM in the district league, which is why Scheckenhofer then sent the table to Thumbs for weeks without comment.

"You can do stuff like that with him.

He takes it with humor,” says Scheckenhofer.

And because we also rate our freelancer Karl Thumbs in the same way, we're going to tell the story mentioned at the beginning that Anton Bönig told us.

Together they were at an indoor tournament in the Czech Republic.

In the penalty shoot-out in the final, the last shooter was Karl Thumbs.

He tried it with the Spitz - and shot the clock off the wall.

"Since then, we've only called it cap kick thumbs," says Bönig.

We think: he is a timeless hero.
