In the recent period since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many athletes have come to Israel to train in a number of disciplines such as judo, tennis, fencing, taekwondo and basketball, when tonight (Saturday) athletes also joined them.
The Athletics Association agreed to the request of its counterpart in Ukraine, and thanks to the great efforts of the Ministry of Sports and the Emek Hefer Council, a delegation of seven athletes and two artists from Ukraine who fled the war landed.
The delegation will be hosted in the Hadassah Youth Village in the Hefer Valley and will train there in the coming weeks.
The Athletics Association stated: "The Athletics Association would like to thank the Minister of Culture and Sports, Hili Trooper, the Deputy Director of Sports, Avi Benvenisti, the head of the Emek Hefer Council, Dr. Galit Shaul, the director of the Association for the Promotion of Emek Hefer, Philip Simon and the CEO of Kfar The Hadassah Youth, Ami Magen, who joined the request and greatly assisted in bringing the delegation and its hospitality to Israel. At the same time, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that its fund of solidarity, managed to raise $ 2 million, in support of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee.
The money will be used to help athletes in the various industries, who are forced to travel in different countries to train and will help rebuild infrastructure.
