FC Augsburg won Sunday afternoon's game of matchday 28 3-0 (1-0) against VfL Wolfsburg.
Iago (1st minute), Florian Niederlechner (63rd) and Mads Pedersen (69th) scored the goals.
After his corona infection, Wolfsburg's coach Florian Kohfeldt missed the game in Augsburg.
His deputy, assistant coach Vincent Heilmann, had to watch Augsburg make it 1-0 after just 50 seconds.
Pedersen had hung up a heel for Iago, who ran in from the left outside and shot strongly into the corner.
A conceivably unfavorable start for the 25-year-old Dutchman Heilmann, the second youngest coach in Bundesliga history.
With the lead behind them, Augsburg was able to withdraw and leave the game to Wolfsburg.
However, VfL could hardly find an antidote against the concentrated defending hosts, only Lukas Nmecha had an opportunity to equalize in the 23rd minute.
His shot was parried by FCA keeper Rafał Gikiewicz.
The second half began with a double chance for the guests, but Max Kruse and Jonas Wind failed (48th).
The goals came on the other side: Niederlechner made it 2-0 after a corner (63'), Pedersen scored from eleven meters (69').
As a result of the success, FCA now have 29 points and a game fewer than VfL Wolfsburg (31 points) and are now three points ahead of Arminia Bielefeld in the relegation rank.
On Wednesday, Augsburg can overtake VfL in the catch-up game against Mainz (6.30 p.m.) before they travel to Bayern next weekend (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.).
At the same time, Wolfsburg competes in the next relegation duel – against Arminia Bielefeld.
