Manchester City and Liverpool have shown no weakness in the gripping fight for the English Premier League title.

Defending champion City claimed first place with a 2-0 (2-0) win at penultimate FC Burnley.

Kevin De Bruyne (5th) and Ilkay Gündoğan (25th) scored for City.

Ex-Dortmunder Gündogan is the most successful German player with his 34th goal in England's top league.

He left Mesut Özil behind, who had scored 33 times for Arsenal.

Jürgen Klinsmann and Uwe Rösler had each scored 29 Premier League goals.

Liverpool are a point behind

Team manager Jürgen Klopp's side kept up with a 2-0 (1-0) win against Watford FC and are one point behind before the direct duel in Manchester on April 10th.

Diogo Jota (23rd minute) and Fabinho (89th penalty) scored for Liverpool.

Chelsea had to accept a setback in the fight for the Champions League places with Thomas Tuchel.

The Champions League winner lost 4-1 (0-0) to FC Brentford despite Antonio Rüdiger's opening goal (49').

The German U21 European champions Vitaly Janelt (50th/60th), Christian Eriksen (54th) and Yoane Wissa (87th) scored for the guests.

Spurs move forward

For Manchester United, the premier class qualification is becoming increasingly difficult.

The English record champions with team manager Ralf Rangnick had to settle for a 1-1 (0-0) draw against Leicester City without Cristiano Ronaldo.#

However, Tottenham Hotspur took a big step towards qualifying for the Champions League.

Antonio Conte's team won 5-1 (1-1) against Newcastle United and moved up to fourth place for the time being.

Fabian Schär's deficit (39') was equalized by Ben Davies before the break (43').

In the second half, Matt Doherty (48), Son Heung-min (54), Ermerson Royal (64) and Steven Vergwijn (83) scored for Spurs.
