The Tölzer Löwen get a lesson in efficiency from the Bayreuth Tigers.

After the 8-3 home defeat on Sunday evening, the play-down series is now 1-1.

Bad Tölz – The home complex of the Tölzer Löwen continues: Even from a record crowd of 1811 spectators in the Tölzer Eisstadion, they did not make a profit on Sunday evening.

On the contrary: in game two of the second play-down round they had to admit defeat to the Bayreuth Tigers 3:8.

The series, at the end of which the loser is relegated from the DEL 2, is now balanced 1:1.

It was above all the exploitation of chances that made the difference: The lions only managed 3 of 48 attempts in the box, repeatedly failing due to the strong Timo Herden.

With the guests, on the other hand, almost every second shot was a hit.

The ratio was 48:20 in the end – for the beaten lions.

Almost every shot is a hit

The Tölzers had their difficulties at the beginning with the high speed with which the guests skated onto the Tölzer ice, they got along better and better after the half of the game.

In the final phase there was a veritable puck firework display on the Bayreuth box.

But the hosts were already 0:6 behind.

"We weren't ready for the Bayreuth pace, we couldn't find a way to get strong Bayreuth players like Ville Järveläinen, Frédérik Cabana or Cason Hohmann under control," said coach Kevin Gaudet.

Too far away from the opponent, many disc losses, situations often not resolved confidently: The lions were far from the safety-oriented game that Gaudet had demanded as essential in order to win this round.

It was especially Tigers top scorer Järveläinen who made the difference.

The Finn scored four goals himself and prepared two.

When it was 0:1, the lions gave in too easily to Hohmann, who sent Frédérik Cabana on his way.

Järveläinen was there for the margin – just like Christian Kretschmann a little later, who increased the number to 2-0 in Bayreuth.

A sense of achievement only in Eberhardt's fistfight

Of course, the lions were not yet defeated.

Josef Hölzl, who only caused the 0:5 when he let the disc jump over his racket into the goal, kept the deficit with a strong save against Hohmann.

Lubor Dibelka and Philipp Schlager tried to shorten it.

But after Järveläinen's 3-0 win right after the restart, only Markus Eberhardt was granted a sense of achievement when he struck down Bayreuth's Tobias Meier.

In the following minority there was the receipt, 0:4.

Six shots, four goals - that's what efficiency looks like

Your own offensive efforts?

Too cumbersome, too inefficient, no mandatory degree.

And herds again and again in the Bayreuth goal, where Tyler McNeely, just like Eberhardt from the blue line, failed from close range, Pascal Aquin also found his master in the guest goalkeeper before Bayreuth pulled away 6-0.

Four goals in the second period – with six shots on goal, that's what efficiency looks like.

In contrast, there were 0 Tölzer hits – in 14 attempts.

A similar picture in the final section.

It said 25:4 shots on goal.

And at least Dibelka on the power play, Eberhardt on the margin and Schlager again in the majority made the result a little friendlier.

Gaudet: "I'm sorry for the spectators, such a nice atmosphere, and then we spoiled them with the defeat."

Tolzer Löwen - Bayreuth Tigers 3: 8 (0: 2, 0: 4, 3: 2)

Goals: 0:1 (4:12) Järveläinen (Cabana/Hohmann), 0:2 (7:11) Kretschmann (Cabana/Järveläinen, 5-4), 0:3 (21:449 Järveläinen (Cabana), 0: 4 (24:13) Järveläinen (Cabana/Davis), 0: 5 (35:21) Kretschmann (Bindels/Davis), 0: 6 (39:25) Pokovic (Davis/Järveläinen), 1: 6 (41:28 ) Dibelka (Schlager/McNeely, 5-4), 1: 7 (43:22) Järveläinen (Hohmann/Cabana, 5-4), 2: 7 (49:19) Eberhardt (Merl/Kolb), 2: 8 ( 50:52) Cabana (Hohmann/Kretschmann, 5-4), 3:8 (52:08) Schlager (Brady/Dibelka, 5-4), – penalty minutes: Tölz 23, Bayreuth 23, – referee: Haupt/Holzer, – Spectators: 1811.
