The Israeli taekwondo fighters, Avishag Samberg and Alex Filipov, finished today (Sunday) in fifth place in competitions held in Alicante, Spain, as part of the World Cup round.
Samberg, a bronze medalist from the Tokyo Olympics, who competed in the women's up to 49 kg category, defeated Italian Virginia Maestro 3: 6, 4: 4, 1: 4 and lost 5: 5, 5: 3,, 10: 5 to Turkey Merba Dinzel in the stage quarterfinal.
Nimrod Kribitsky, who competes in the weight category up to 68 kg, advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Adam Yazid Ferdiana from Indonesia 3: 8, 3: 5, and then losing 2: 2, 7: 5, 5: 1 to Frenchman Theo Lucien.
Alex Filipov, who competes in the weight category up to 80 kg, defeated German Martin Stach 6:11, 4: 6 and finished fifth after losing 3: 2, 1: 2, 7: 5 to Spaniard John Anthony Sintado in the quarterfinals. Noa Price was eliminated in the round of 16 in the weight category up to 53 kg. 1 to Magwatti Mashwari from Indonesia.
In the same category, Rumi Khmilevsky also qualified for the quarterfinals after beating Dutchman Robin Didan 4: 1, 4: 8, 3: 3 and then losing to Italian Sarah El.
