In the fight for the title in the women's Bundesliga, the leaders of the table from Wolfsburg have taken a decisive step towards the seventh championship.
VfL won 6-0 (3-0) against the defending champions from FC Bayern Munich and are four points ahead of the Munich team with three games to go.
The gap to Turbine Potsdam and third place in the table is already ten points.
The goals for VfL against Bayern, who were still severely decimated by Corona, were scored by Svenja Huth (8th minute), Joelle Wedemeyer (33rd), Tabea Waßmuth (39th), Alexandra Popp (77th), Lena Oberdorf (82nd) and Ewa Pajor (90th)
So the title defense dreams of Munich are as good as over.
At least that was what Bayern coach Jens Scheuer admitted before the game.
“With the rest of the program, I don't think they'll lose feathers.
That's why it's also a final, you can call it that and don't need to talk around it."
The »final« lived up to expectations at the beginning, both teams created numerous chances, with a shot of the goal of the month from 20 meters Huth opened the goal festival for the hosts.
Three days after reaching the Champions League semi-finals, the Wolfsburg women are now increasingly taking command.
With the 0: 3 at the break, the Munich women were still well served.
In the second round, the hosts managed the result, Popp, Oberdorf and Pajor made it 6-0.
"Wolfsburg was brutally effective," said national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg during the break on NDR: "Bayern's performance can of course be explained.
They lack freshness physically and mentally.
That's very unfortunate for Bayern."
The two clubs have fought for the last nine titles in the Bundesliga: Bayern have triumphed three times and VfL six times.
In 2012, Potsdam, who are currently third in the table, won the cup.
