INTERVIEW – On the occasion of the Super Slalom in La Plagne last Saturday, the French skier, giant bronze medalist at the recent Olympic Games, spoke to Le Figaro about his season and his future, near and… distant.


Mathieu, what is your assessment of your season?

Between the giant bronze medal at the Beijing Games and a World Cup season finished in 5th place, is it contrasting?


Mathieu Faivre:

Yes, we can say that.

Concretely, this season, I had two objectives: to have a great season in the World Cup and to get on the podium in Beijing.

The first has not been filled in, that's obvious.

But the second was, during an always special event, with a lot of pressure because we know that it only takes place every four years.

Obviously, like any skier, I aspired to win Olympic gold but to succeed in winning a medal is already beautiful.

Especially when it's the first.

In terms of ski produced, commitment, I could have done better there, but that doesn't mean that I would have done better in terms of ranking given the gap that separated me from the first two.
