With hanging heads, the Bayern stars say goodbye to the fans who have traveled with them.

In Villarreal, Munich suffered a deserved defeat after a poor performance overall.

FC Bayern is lucky not to have received a swatter here.

Villarreal missed great chances for at least three more goals, Manuel Neuer got away with a huge mistake.

A lot of catching up to do for the second leg in Munich!

FINAL WHISTLE!

The game is over.

90 minutes:

Coman has another chance!

However, his volley acceptance ends up in Rulli's arms - where else? The last few minutes are running.

90 minutes:

Now or never!

Bayern throws everything forward again, but Villarreal defends everything cleanly.

87th minute:

Villarreal deprives itself of its well-deserved reward!

Capoue cooks Sané excellently and sends Lo Celso on his journey.

He serves Pedraza, who can choose the corner before Neuer.

His finish is pathetic though!

FC Bayern – Villarreal in the live ticker: Munich are fighting against defeat

86 minutes:

Rulli again and again – the Villarreal keeper plucks one cross after the other out of the air.

Will Bayern still get the lucky punch?

84 minutes:

Villarreal is now limited to defensive work.

FC Bayern doesn't get any real chances - and time is running out.

82 minutes:

Sané pulls from a good 20 meters, but his shot is too central.

Ruli holds.

81 minutes:

Emery makes a double change and brings in lightning-fast striker Samuel Chukwueze.

Bayern should be warned about the quick counterattack.

79 minutes:

Bayern takes control.

Just over ten minutes remain for the equaliser.

77 minutes:

FC Bayern is now trying to make the game calmer with lots of ball possession.

The problem: Villarreal is deep, looks at it relaxed - and can live very well with the current result.

74 minutes:

What else is up for Bayern?

It's still only 1-0, and the guests can still do a lot of damage limitation here with a late goal.

FC Bayern – Villarreal in the live ticker: Neuer makes a big mistake

72 minutes:

Villarreal is still on the trigger.

Strong how the outsider presents himself here.

It is not bricked, but cheerfully played on the second goal.

70 minutes:

It feels like every team can score a goal at any moment.

Even if the wild phase has now calmed down a bit.

Sané, Goretzka and Süle are now in the game, Müller, Gnanbry and Pavard are out.

65 minutes:

A good chance for Davies, but Rulli saves.

On the other side, Danjuma squanders the next big chance because he takes too long to shoot.

The Bayern defense opens the door to the enemy.

The game is getting wilder, the midfield is almost non-existent.

62 minutes:

And again great luck for Bayern!

Neuer makes an incredible mistake and plays into the feet of Moreno on the halfway line.

The gate is orphaned - but the Spaniard doesn't hit it!

His attempt from the center line is initially on course, but then spins out.

Bayern swim, but are always dangerous up front.

It's a completely open exchange of blows.

59 minutes:

Gnabry almost gets a through ball from Kimmich, so there wasn't much missing.

At the other end, Villarreal have another chance - Pedraza just misses the goal.

Bayern can be happy that it's only 0-1 here.

FC Bayern – Villarreal in the live ticker: Munich swim – Davies saves

57 minutes:

What a rescue by Davies!

The Canadian seems to be in top form defensively.

But the development shows: Villarreal plays much more purposefully forward!

Another great attack via Estupinan on the left, in the middle Danjuma would have been completely free.

But Davies rushes in from behind and throws himself between the ball and the goal.

55th Minute:

Foyth buys Davies time and time again.

The Argentine has control of the left touchline.

54 minutes:

A lot of dizziness for Bayern!

Gerard Moreno grabs an incredible left glue from the corner of the box and hits the post.

Neuer would have been beaten.

A loud murmur goes through the stadium.

52 minutes:

Hernandez heads past a Kimmich free kick.

Are Bayern coming with anger in their stomachs?

FC Bayern – Villarreal in the live ticker: Great opportunity for FCB

50 minutes:

The first big chance for Bayern!

Gnabry lets his opponent get out with a feint and then shoots with the left.

Müller pulls out his bones, but he's missing a few centimetres.

The ball rushes past the post.

49 minutes:

Davies has space on the left, lets Foyth out but then has to finish with his weak right foot.

The ball passes.

47 minutes:

The sports fans have the first actions in yellow.

But Neuer doesn't let anything burn with a flank.

RESTART!

The second half is on.

Does FC Bayern show a different face now?

Halftime

- Extremely difficult away game for FC Bayern - FC Villarreal deservedly lead, Julian Nagelsmann's team is harmless offensively and too vulnerable defensively.

The 1-0 came after an exemplary attack by the Spaniards, Manuel Neuer almost conceded the second goal shortly before the break.

Everything has to change at Bayern in the second half.

Above all, the hosts close everything on the outside and are always there with two men against the fast outside of Munich.

Robert Lewandowski has no relation to the game at all.

It will be interesting to see how Bayern come out of the cabin.

As of now, that's a tactical feat by Unai Emery's team!

HALFTIME!

That was the first pass.

Hasan Salihamidzic marches into the catacombs, shaking his head.

That was nothing!

44 minutes:

Capoue gets past Upamecano too easily, but shoots wide.

Julian Nagelsmann will be very happy if Taylor whistles here at halftime.

FC Bayern – Villarreal in the live ticker: offside prevents a second strike

42 minutes:

That was more than a warning shot for Bayern.

It almost got really uncomfortable here.

Offensively and defensively, this has been a very weak half so far.

40 minutes:

Goal for Villarreal!

Madness in yellow!

Or not?

A cross from Coquelin lands in the goal, but the Frenchman was razor-thin for offside.

The stadium cheers in vain.

35 minutes:

Bayern have more possession of the ball, but the Spaniards are noticeably more dangerous.

Especially in the last third, the record champion lacks precision.

Alphonso Davies' long break is noticeable, he can't get past the opponent yet.

32 minutes

: Villarreal has the more dangerous scenes!

Free kick Parejo, Moreno extended.

Luckily for Bayern, there is no player in yellow at the far post.

FC Bayern – Villarreal in the live ticker: Munich are struggling

31 minutes:

The Spaniards are very compact, not easy for Munich to find a gap.

The counterattacks are always dangerous - this time Hernandez ironed out with a foul.

29 minutes:

It burns in the Munich penalty area!

Moreno is sent off with a high ball, but then Upamecano is there at the last second.

Strongly intervened by the French.

27 minutes:

Again and again Villarreal cleverly lets the ball run in their own ranks and keeps Bayern away from their own goal.

Lucas Hernandez gets a chance to shoot, but the Frenchman clearly misses.

24 minutes:

Villarreal is now withdrawing a little and feeling quite comfortable with it.

Bayern try with many crosses from the half field, but have not been successful with it.

21 minutes:

An open game develops, both teams put their actions forward.

Now Musiala surprises the opposing defense with a quick start, puts it over to Gnabry - but veteran Albiol stops him with a clever tackle.

18 minutes:

The hosts play with a lot of self-confidence after the goal and are difficult to separate from the ball.

FC Bayern has been warned - it will probably not be an easy task today.

14 minutes:

Pavard can only stop Danjuma with a foul.

Dani Parejo is a free-kick specialist - but his set piece is not a threat.

The same thing happens to Kimmich a minute later, his free kick is also safe prey for the keeper.

FC Bayern – Villarreal in the live ticker: outsiders take the lead

11 minutes:

Bayern are certainly a little shocked - but they don't show it.

The German record champion puts pressure on the home team's goal.

However, there are still a few stumbling blocks.

7 minutes: TOOOOOOOOOR for Villarreal FC!

The Spaniards shock Bayern early!

Lo Celso cleverly puts the ball behind the defense where Parejo is completely blank.

His shot is deflected by striker Danjuma, making it untenable for Neuer.

Not offside because Hernandez is on the line.

5 minutes:

Villarreal has a lot of space to counterattack, the Bayern back team runs unsorted into a counterattack.

But left-back Estupinan plays a bad pass and the opportunity falls flat.

4 minutes:

Villarreal comes dangerously into the Munich half for the first time.

Pavard loses a duel, but then Kimmich is there.

3. Minute:

Bayern does not give the Spaniards time to breathe.

Very high pressing from the Nagelsmann team.

1st minute:

Coman picks up speed on the right, but then gets out of step.

There is repulsion.

WHISTLE!

The game begins.

Referee Anthony Taylor opens the Champions League quarter-finals.

Update, 8:54 p.m.:

The countdown is almost over!

It's about to start in Villarreal.

Update, 8:16 p.m .:

Not long until kick-off!

Is FC Bayern already laying the foundation stone for the semi-finals away today?

In all likelihood, Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC are waiting there, the Reds won their first leg against Benfica Lisbon 3-1.

The parallel game also has a lot to offer today: Real Madrid welcomes Chelsea.

However, our focus remains in the Valencian province, where Julian Nagelsmann's team is challenged in just under 45 minutes.

FC Bayern – Villarreal in the live ticker: Davies in the starting XI

Update April 6, 7:48 p.m.:

The lineups are here!

Julian Nagelsmann has a few surprises in store for Bayern.

Leroy Sané and Leon Goretzka are only on the bench for the time being, Alphonso Davies is making his starting eleven comeback.

Jamal Musiala surprisingly gives the six instead of Goretzka.

Serge Gnabry is allowed to run in front.

First report from April 6th:

Villarreal - The word "Bayern-Dusel" went off the lips again after the Champions League draw - because FC Bayern drew the supposedly lightest of the possible quarter-final opponents with the surprise team FC Villarreal.

To what extent the "yellow submarine" (nickname of the club) is actually a lucky ticket remains to be seen.

Because as Julian Nagelsmann already noted at the press conference (his statements to read): Villarreal has the most experienced team in the Spanish league with a total of almost 4000 La Liga appearances.

Last year, Unai Emery's team won the Europa League, this year they threw Juventus Turin* out of the Champions League in the round of 16.

FC Bayern – Villarreal in the live ticker: Munich with a full chapel

"It's a team that's experienced a bit.

You have to crack that first,” said Nagelsmann.

"They have different basic formations and open the game with a lot of risk." The small Estadio de la Cerámica (23,500 seats) will be packed and will not make the task any easier for Munich.

Video: Villarreal coach Emery on FC Bayern

At the same time, however, one thing is certain: FC Bayern is a big favourite, anything but reaching the semi-finals would be tantamount to a moderate earthquake.

The personnel situation could hardly be better before the quarter-final first leg: only Corentin Tolisso and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are missing.

Even the long-missing Alphonso Davies* is about to make a comeback, even the starting eleven is in there, as Nagelsmann confirmed.

FC Bayern – Villarreal in the live ticker: Emery caused the last FCB away defeat

Incidentally, Villarreal coach Emery personally inflicted the last away defeat in the Champions League on the record champions in 2017 with PSG.

But that also means that Bayern have not lost a CL away game for over four years.

Villarreal's own "Lewandowski", Gerard Moreno, would like to change that.

The striker is something like the yellow people's life insurance.

With our live ticker you will not miss any important scene of the game.

The Champions League anthem sounds just before 9 p.m.

All TV information about the game is available here*.
