Estella Rodriguez Villanova, one of the best athletes to come out of Cuba, died of a heart attack at the age of 54 after being hospitalized due to complications from diabetes. 

Rodriguez, the winner of the silver medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and Atlanta in 1996, died at the 26th Clinical Surgical Hospital. And at the 1991 Havana Open Competition. 

Rodriguez was inducted into the Pan American Judo Confederation Hall of Fame, and was the national team coach before her death.

"The entire global judo family mourns and expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Rodriguez, another champion who left too soon," the World Judo Federation (IJF) said.
