Table leaders Schalke 04 lost the duel against the second from Bremen 1: 4 (0: 2), Hamburger SV came to a late 4: 2 victory at Jahn Regensburg.
The second top game of the day takes place in the evening when FC St. Pauli welcomes SV Darmstadt 98.
It has been clear since yesterday: FC Ingolstadt has to leave the second division after a year.
For the first time since March 2020, Schalke played in a sold-out home stadium.
But the Gelsenkirchen fans among the 62,000 spectators had to cope with a shock early on: Keeper Martin Fraisl was only able to fend off a shot by Bremen's Mitchell Weiser, allowing Ilia Gruev to head in to give Bremen the lead (9th minute).
Despite a few personnel problems, Bremen remained the better team – and the more successful: Another cross from Weiser found the free-standing Niclas Füllkrug, who made it 2-0 with a powerful header (26th).
Marvin Ducksch then twice had the 3:0 on his foot, but the post saved once for S04 (28th), then he just missed the opposing goal (43rd).
Anyone who had expected a Schalke assault in the second round was disappointed.
Instead Werder played in the meantime in a frenzy.
Ducksch took away any hope from the hosts early on with a double strike (51st and 53rd).
Simon Terodde scored the consolation goal (88th).
Good time for a debut goal in professional football: Miro Muheim gave HSV the lead after 23 minutes with a brilliant shot into the right angle.
At this point, however, Regensburg should have been in the lead.
Benedikt Saller missed the best of numerous good opportunities (11th).
HSV gained more control later, but didn't play really convincingly.
Immediately after the restart, the acknowledgment followed: A back pass from Moritz Heyer fell short and the ball found its way to Carlo Boukhalfa, who shot into the left corner (46').
Another long-range shot gave HSV the lead again: Anssi Suhonen scored with the last action before being substituted (66').
The deserved equalizer came with a penalty: Andreas Albers converted a penalty kick to make it 2-2 (89 ') shortly before the end of the game.
But HSV found another answer: Josha Vagnoman scored to make it 3-2 for HSV (90th).
David Kinsombi converted a penalty in the sixth minute of added time to make it 4-2.
Another result:
