Already a winner in 2019, the Olympic champion and double time trial world champion offered herself a second Liège-Bastogne-Liège Women

The Dutch Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) won Liège-Bastogne-Liège Women for the second time on Sunday, a few hours before the men's race.

Already victorious in 2019, van Vleuten won alone in this 6th edition.

She was about forty seconds ahead of the Australian Grace Brown (FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine) and the Dutch Demi Vollering (SD Worx), after 142 km.

The Dutch started to blast the race in the Côte de la Redoute, 30 km from the finish.

Taken over for the first time by her rivals after her attack, the 39-year-old Dutchwoman was then not seen again after the second attack on the coast of Roche-aux-Faucons, 14 km from the finish, to ensure fifteen seconds ahead of a small chasing group (Vollering, Moolman-Pasio, Cavalli, Brown, Longo Borghini).

The Dutch in power

The Olympic champion and double world time trial champion demonstrated her qualities as a rider to resist, headwind, the return of a group of five pursuers.

Van Vleuten won this 6th edition with a 43-second lead over Grace Brown (FDJ - Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope) and defending champion Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx).

She equals, with her two victories over the “Doyenne”, the record held by her compatriot Anna van der Breggen.

Since the creation of the event in 2017, the Dutch domination (Anna van der Breggen, Annemiek van Vleuten, Demi Vollering) has only been interrupted by the victory of the Briton Lizzie Deignan in 2020 (winner of the first edition of Paris -Roubaix Women has it last).

The race route connects Bastogne to Liège and covers the last 75 kilometers of the men's race from the Haute-Levée.
