The 44-year-old goalkeeper returned to Parma's squad yesterday after an absence of about a month and a half and absorbed the most miserable goal in his long and glorious career.

In the seventh minute of the game against Perugia last night, Buffon received a pass from one of his defensive players, tried to deliver himself, but rolled the ball backwards - towards his goal.

Buffon sat next to him on the bench and Oliveiri's agent said in an interview at the time: "The players supported him, especially Buffon who encouraged him a lot."
