Formula 1 star Mick Schumacher gets along very well with his new teammate Kevin Magnussen - even the greeting broke the ice.

Imola - In terms of sport, Mick Schumacher just doesn't want to work in Formula 1 yet.

The German Formula 1 driver is far behind his new teammate Kevin Magnussen.

In the end, it was only enough for a disappointing 17th place in Imola.

In the overall standings, Schumacher is the only driver besides Nicolas Latifi without a point.

Magnussen, on the other hand, already has 15 points and is tenth overall.

"I respect him a lot," said the experienced Dane anyway.

Where does the respect come from and what does Schumacher's greeting have to do with it?

Mick Schumacher's new teammate: Magnussen replaced Nikita Mazepin ahead of the season

Due to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, Nikita Mazepin had to leave Haas before the season.

The relationship between Mazepin and Schumacher was considered cold, there are said to have been some disagreements in the team.

Formula 1: What is the background to Schumacher's welcome?

That doesn't sound very friendly at first, does it?

The saying goes back to an incident between Magnussen and Niko Hülkenberg.

A dispute broke out at the Hungaroring race in 2017.

Magnussen was conducting an interview when Hülkenberg interrupted him and described him as the "most unsportsmanlike driver of the day".

Then it broke out of Magnussen.

"Suck my balls!", So "Suck my balls," said the 29-year-old annoyed.

He had hoped that Hulkenberg would take off as a result.

Hülkenberg resented the statement, for years he did not want to speak to Magnussen.

The relationship between the two drivers is now good again.

Since then, the saying has enjoyed cult status in the Formula 1 cosmos.

How did Magnussen react to Schumacher's statement?

"Mick has a good sense of humor.

From that moment on, it was clear to me that we would have a good relationship," Magnussen continued.

“Mick is extremely nice and very relaxed.

He doesn't pretend and isn't aloof,” praises the Dane.

That's where the respect comes from.

But Magnussen also emphasizes the sporting quality that he sees in his team-mate: “Mick is getting better every week and has already reached a new level in the first races of the season.

He will score his first points in the near future.”

Schumacher's next chance for points is in Miami.

The premiere of the race will take place on May 8th at 9:30 p.m. German time.
