Olympic champion Alexander Zverev tore multiple ligaments in his right foot in the semifinals in Paris against Rafael Nadal on Friday.
"After the first medical examinations, it looks like I tore several side ligaments in my right foot," Zverev said on Saturday via Instagram.
Zverev wrote on a photo that showed him with a splint on his right foot and crutches in front of a plane.
The 25-year-old twisted his right foot in a duel with 13-time Paris champion Nadal on Friday and had to give up the game.
On the night of Saturday, the Olympic tennis champion said in a video message published by the organizers that it looked like “I had a very serious injury”.
How long Zverev has to pause is still unclear.
However, a start at the grass classic in Wimbledon, which begins on June 27th, is very unlikely.
