The Bulgarian national football team was involved in a serious traffic accident on its way to the Nations League game in Georgia.
Midfielder Todor Nedelew suffered a traumatic brain injury, as a result of which he had to undergo surgery.
As the Bulgarian association announced on Saturday, the operation was successful.
The 29-year-old Nedelew, who played at FSV Mainz 05 from 2014 to 2016, will continue to be treated in the hospital.

Everyone else involved in the accident is fine.

According to the association, the Bulgarians' accident happened on Friday after their arrival in Georgia's capital Tbilisi, where they will play their fourth group game on Sunday (6 p.m., TV: Dazn).
On the way to the team hotel, the driver of the first of the two buses lost control of the vehicle, which led to the accident.
After the collision, Nedelew was transported to a local hospital.
Bulgaria have drawn twice so far and lost the first leg at home against leaders Georgia with no points lost 5-2.
