Sensational comeback of the sausage roaster: Uli Maurer storms again for SC Riessersee

It's a comeback that's causing a stir: Uli Maurer, now 37 years old, is rejoining the Oberliga club SC Riessersee.

However, there is one clause that is not quite common.

– Uli Maurer has learned one thing in the year and a half he has worked in the private sector: “I don’t get sausages!” An important insight.

Because his comeback is based on it, which he officially announced on Wednesday evening at the SC Riessersee fan table.

The 37-year-old ex-DEL professional presented himself as tall and slim as ever in Pub33.

And that despite the many sausage temptations that he often prepares on the grill.

"But I've always done something," he reassures - in case a critic should actually be found who doubts his return.

For Pana Christakakis there was not a moment of hesitation.

"If there is an opportunity to bring Uli Maurer back, then you have to use it," says the managing director of the GmbH.

"He is a role model, a role model, he embodies the SCR."

The ex-professional lacks professional ice hockey

Maurer noticed that he missed professional ice hockey when he was on the ice with the old men from time to time in the preseason.

"I felt that ice hockey was still fun for me." And - of course: "Here and there I was just a step faster than the others."

The talks between Christakakis and Maurer came about in a curious way. The managing director actually wanted to talk to the winger about the farewell game in the summer.

As is well known, the SCR was planning a walkout for three big names: Florian Vollmer, Stephan Wilhelm – and Maurer.

"Suddenly I had the feeling that Uli wasn't ready yet," reveals Christakakis.

He smelled his chance.

"Then we spoke."

Pat Cortina has also tried to persuade Maurer

Coach Pat Cortina had also tried to point Maurer to a comeback last year.

"He wrote me messages asking if I couldn't imagine playing again," says the Garmisch-Partenkirchner.

But at that time he was still too deep in the phase of finding a career.

"Everything worked out." Also thanks to his business partners, who gave him the green light to return to the ice.

"Otherwise it wouldn't have worked."

However, there are restrictions: "I haven't signed such a contract yet," jokes Maurer.

Six weeks, he calls them the "crazy time at the turn of the year", he is released from ice hockey.

"It's very difficult to go two ways." So the contractual partners included a clause that allowed him to be released from December to mid-January.

“Some told me right away that I shouldn’t do it until mid-January.

But I didn't want that.” Maurer would like to be part of the team from August 22, the start of the preparations, to get to know his colleagues.

"Of course I'm missing a lot of games, but I generally see the hottest phase of the season from mid-March." Then it's time for the playoffs.

The third contingent position will not be filled for the time being

Christakakis can live with the clause.

Because the SCR initially saves the position of the third contingent player through the Maurer obligation.

"I know that at the beginning I was one of the people who cried out the loudest for it, but I didn't know then that we would get Lubor Dibelka and Uli Maurer." A third foreigner could then join them in December when Maurer takes his professional break .

There is no need to worry too much about finances.

"We also lost players who cost money," notes the manager, without naming names.

Maurer is happy about the blood refreshment in the team.

“Now the burden is spread over several shoulders.

It used to be: Vollmer, two foreigners and a bricklayer – you'll do it!” That's one of the reasons why he went to the roast sausage.

Now he really feels like it again.

And that can only do the SCR good.

Season tickets for the 2022/23 season

"Don't worry, this isn't supposed to be just a sales event," joked Pana Christakakis at the start of the fans' get-together on Wednesday.

But: There was a serious background to the fact that he brought the topic of season tickets to the beginning of the event.

"We want to attack this year," clarified the managing director of SCR-GmbH.

"But that's only possible if we can rely on the fans." Nobody knows at the moment whether the C word will play a role again in the upcoming Oberliga season, which will officially start on September 30th.

Christakakis highlighted the merits of the season ticket, which has been on sale since Wednesday.

27 home games are integrated, five are free compared to individual tickets.

For this purpose, those responsible pack a meet & greet with the team.

In addition, each owner may bring a companion to a game free of charge.

For the first time, the season ticket is available as a digital ticket.

Not included are the playoffs in 2022/23, but there is a 25 percent discount on the day tickets - as well as a right to the regular seat for seats.

It will be closed until then because of the G7 summit.

There is an early bird discount of ten percent until July 8th.
