Hapoel Jerusalem this morning (Sunday) signed coordinator Speedy Smith (29, 1.90) on a one-season contract.
Speedy, and in his full name Kenneth 'Smith' Jr., finished a historic season with Rita Vilna, which led to his first championship win in 11 years.
In the final series against Litkablis, Speedy excelled with 12.3 points and 8 assists and led Ritas to a sweep in the series.
Team coach Alexander Djikic said: "Speedy has all the requirements we were looking for in the center. He can help us find a healthy balance between shooting and creating for his teammates. His approach and competitiveness on both sides of the pitch will be of great benefit to us."
Speedy Smith said after the signing: "I am very excited to be a part of Hapoel Jerusalem. I have heard a lot about our dedicated fans and the atmosphere in the arena. I have fond memories of my short time in Israel and now I hope to do something special for our club. I look forward to working with Coach Djikic, and can no longer wait for the season to begin. "
Basketball fans in Israel remember the Reds' new acquisition from his time at Maccabi Haifa, which he reached as part of the "Corona League" in 2020, and in eight games he recorded 14.6 points and 7.6 assists.
During his career in Europe, Smith also appeared in the Limoges, Charleroi and Antwerp uniforms, among others.
Prior to the season in Lithuania, Speedy played for four seasons in the G-League, on the Lakers and Pistons' development teams.
