After a two-year Corona break, the popular SpVgg Altenerding beach handball tournament, the Chakalaka Cup, took place for the fourth time.

Erding – The well-established crew was strengthened, and so the eleven-man team put together a perfect event again.

14 teams with a total of 120 players were in action on the beach handball courts at temperatures around 30 degrees at Kronthaler Weiher in Erding.

The team names could be chosen by the participants themselves, and they were creative as well: mussel mixers, rum sandlers, street gangs, tequiladiators – just to name a few.

In the first round - it was played in the age groups D/C youth, B/A youth and adults - every team was challenged.

The games in which there was fighting to the end lasted twice ten minutes each.

Everything is of course contactless - that's what the rules say - which is an absolute challenge for handball players compared to their real handball sport, and the referees have consistently whistled.

There were even matches, with a head-to-head race for the last point.

But there were also very clear outcomes of the game, such as a 70:27 that the Rumsandlers won.

The e-youth were allowed to go out on the field for the first time out of competition, were infected by the "Chakalaka virus" and clearly had fun.

Whether simple goals, Kempa throws or goals from the shooter, whether a dive, somersault or direct goals from the goalkeeper into the opposite goal.

A lot is possible in beach handball, provides a lot of movement and makes watching all the more attractive.

Many visitors to the Kronthaler Weiher also took advantage of this opportunity.

The sun loungers and surrounding green spaces were well filled.

In the end, the finals were played out from each age group: The winners were the sand fleas (D/C youth), the tequiladiators (B/A youth) and finally the ImPoSand team among the adults.

However, everyone has won: more team spirit beyond their own handball team, lots of fun and good spirits, a cool after-party, perhaps also one or two people interested in beach handball and handball in general.

The Chakalaka crew agrees: the effort was worth it and a new edition next year is certain.
