Uwe Seeler has apparently passed away.
The German striker icon, who has legendary status at Hamburger SV, was 85 years old.
Norderstedt – German football mourns the loss of Hamburg football icon Uwe Seeler.
According to an

report from Thursday afternoon (July 21), the striker legend died at the age of 85.
Most recently, Seeler struggled with health problems.
Seeler is considered one of the best strikers to have ever played for the German national team.
The Hanseatic was appointed honorary captain of the German Football Association (DFB) in 1972.
In his 72 international matches, the native of Hamburg scored 43 goals, and in 1966 he became vice world champion with the national team in England.
He appeared in 476 games for HSV and scored 404 goals.
In 1960 he won the German championship with the North Germans, three years later HSV won the DFB Cup with "Uns Uwe".

Seeler also received individual awards during and after his career.
The native of Hamburg was voted “Footballer of the Year” in 1960, 1964 and 1970.
He was also the top scorer in the Bundesliga with 30 goals in the inaugural season of 1963/64.

According to the report, he had fallen repeatedly in recent years and never recovered properly.

Among other things, on November 5, 2020, Seeler fell in front of his house in Norderstedt.
In the NDR documentary "Uwe Seeler - One of us: The football legend turns 85", the former striker told of the accident last October.
"I'm a little high up into our house from the terrace," said Seeler.
Then he "dropped the cup and dishes", buckled and "put his whole face in the dishes".
The injury bled profusely, he reported.

Seeler's wife Ilka told the
Hamburger Morgenpost
that "Uwe has to take blood-thinning medication that makes him bleed."
In May 2020, Seeler broke his hip in a fall in his house.
The exact cause of death is now unknown.
