Why the women's Tour de France is making a comeback

Convinced of the event's potential, Christian Prudhomme is relaunching it with the aim of making it last.


Sunday, on the Champs-Élysées, the Tour de France will regretfully let the end credits scroll.

The melancholy and the lack dug after three weeks of travels, twists and emotions will be soothed this year by the women's Tour which will leave Paris to plant its podium at the top of the Super Planche des Belles Filles, after 8 stages, on the 31 July.

Christian Prudhomme, director of the Tour de France, presents: “

The visionary is called Félix Levitan who, in the 1980s, created the women's Tour de France.

It lasted six years because it lost too much money.

Others tried, created the Women's Grande Boucle, it lasted a few years and it stopped.

Still others created the Women's Route de France and for the same reasons, same causes, same effects, it stopped.
