Peruvian walker Kimberly Garcia Leon won the 35K World Championships debut in Eugene, her second gold at the Oregon State Championships.

The 28 won after 2:39:16 hours with a clear lead.

The podium was the same as on the opening day over 20 kilometers: silver went again to Katarzyna Zdzieblo from Poland (2:40:03), bronze again secured the Chinese Olympic champion from 2012, Qieyang Shijie (2:40:37).

Garcia Leon, seventh in the 2017 World Cup, had not made a particularly spectacular appearance internationally before the season.

Before Garcia Leon, no athlete had won two titles in Eugene.

Ines Henriques (Portugal), 50km World Champion of Doha 2019, finished a long way behind.

A German walker was not at the start.

The classic 50 km walk will no longer be held, the discipline is no longer up to date, the reason given.

Instead, races over 35 km will be held for the first time in Eugene for women and men.

The men start on Sunday.
