As in the three previous European championships, this year also the reserve team of Israel in basketball managed to advance to the later stages of the tournament.
After reaching the final in 2017, 2018 and 2019, Oren Aharoni's team wants to register a fourth consecutive final when they meet the powerful Spain in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, this evening (Saturday).
Israel passed Slovenia in the round of 16 and Turkey in the quarterfinals, and now Aharoni will hope that the players, led by Noam Dovar and Gilad Levy from Po'el Jerusalem, will be able to overcome the team which the coach defined as "the highest quality in the championship".
The Blues - Whites will try to stop Juan Nunes, the 18-year-old center who plays for Real Madrid and should be selected high in the NBA draft in the future.
Another intriguing name in the Spanish team is Michael Quesado, who comes from bitter rival Barcelona.
Spain won all of its games in the championship by a double-digit margin and an average margin of 21 points, so Israel faces a very difficult task on the way to the battle for the cup.
In the second semi-final later this evening, tournament host Montenegro will play against Lithuania.

The opening was tight, with Israel looking less good than the opponent, but taking advantage of the mistakes of comfortable shots to stay in the picture and after a small deficit, make a turnaround and go up to 9:10 with a little more than 5 minutes left in the quarter.
