Former Atlético de Madrid player Paulo Futre was hospitalized this Sunday in Lisbon on suspicion of suffering a stroke after feeling unwell after his mother's funeral, according to local media.
The 56-year-old former Portuguese international and mattress idol was transported to the Barreiro Hospital, on the south bank of the Tagus, and later transferred to the Santa Maria hospital in Lisbon, reports the Portuguese sports

Although he has not disclosed official information about his condition, the former soccer player would be aware, according to the same newspaper.
Family sources assure that at the moment he is undergoing a catheterization and is awaiting evolution.
Futre, 41 times capped by Portugal, played for Atlético de Madrid in two stages, one between 1987 and 1993 and another in 1997, and after retiring he also served as the club's sporting director.
He also played in the three “greats” of Portuguese football -Sporting, Porto and Benfica-, in Olympique de Marseille, Reggiana, Milan, West Ham and Yokohama Flügels.
