Big disappointment for the German women's national ice hockey team.
Frederikshavn/Erding – Hungary lost 2:4 (2:1, 0:2, 0:1) after a 2:0 lead at the start of the World Cup.
This Saturday we continue against Sweden at 7.30 p.m.
The frustration was great - also with the five Erdingers who are in the DEB team.
"Of course we imagined a different start," said striker Franzi Feldmeier of the home newspaper disappointed.
"We played well for the first quarter of an hour and then let the two goals we conceded throw us off balance."
Luisa Welcke (2nd) and Laura Kluge (11th) gave Germany a 2-0 lead, Franciska Kiss-Simon equalized (11th, 24th).
"We then didn't do the basics properly, had too many disc losses, especially on the blue lines, and then always had to run after them." The result: 3: 2 by Kinga Jokai-Szilagy (36th) and the 4: 2 from Mira Sereley nine seconds before the end via empty-net-goal.
Tabea Botthof, who had prepared the 1-0, is also annoyed.
“Of course we had different expectations, and that shouldn't have happened.
We started well, then we deviated a bit from our system and there were uncertainties," admits the defender.
"The lead after the first third was great, then we made small mistakes and were too careless," said Bernadette Karpf self-critically.
After the afternoon defeat, the German team watched Sweden's 5-2 victory over hosts Denmark in the evening.
"The Swedes are great players who all have a good shot," said Sandra Abstreiter, who was on the bench as a backup goalkeeper against Hungary.
In the box was the former gladiator Franziska Albl.
"We have to be self-confident and do little things right, then it'll work against Sweden," Karpf said aggressively.
"We simply have to exploit our potential again now," Botthof demands and is confident.
"The Swedes suit us very well, we've beaten them several times in the past tournaments." And Feldmeier is also optimistic: "We have to tick off Hungary.
I know that there is a lot more to our team.”
