Formula 1: Belgian Grand Prix in Spa – Qualifying |
Saturday, 4 p.m
Even before qualifying it is clear: Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Mick Schumacher, among others, have to start from the end of the field.
This ticker for Formula 1 qualifying in Spa is constantly updated.
Spa-Francorchamps – The Belgian Grand Prix means one thing above all: full throttle.
In contrast to many other circuits on the Formula 1 calendar, overtaking is quite possible on the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
For this reason, the course is ideal for changing engine or other components, for which a grid penalty follows.
With a fast car, it is therefore possible for the driver to plow through the field comparatively quickly.
A total of six drivers used this opportunity this time and accepted a penalty.
Including the two protagonists of the world championship fight: Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari).
Mick Schumacher (Haas), Lando Norris (McLaren), Esteban Ocon (Alpine) and Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo) also start from behind.
Formula 1 qualifying in Spa: Vettel and Hamilton beneficiaries of penalties?
The battle for pole therefore promises a lot of excitement.
Sebastian Vettel is also one of the drivers who could benefit from the flood of penalties.
In practice, the Aston Martin was surprisingly quick.
Lewis Hamilton, who is one of the top contenders for pole position, could also be a beneficiary.
The sporty thing was a bit overshadowed by big news on Friday.
At a press conference in Spa this morning, Audi announced its entry into Formula 1 for the 2026 season, initially only as an engine manufacturer.
However, the cooperation with an existing team will be announced by the end of the year.
Nevertheless, the first Audi show car has already been presented.
Everything points to the Sauber racing team, not least because it was also announced on Friday that the name sponsorship with Alfa Romeo will not be extended.
The contract runs until the end of 2023.
