The Lensoise attack awakens Bollaert
After a very weak first period, the Lensois did not wait to start the machine with two big chances in quick succession, marked by saves in extremis from Arthur Theate then Joe Rodon (47th) to counter the attempts of Sotoca then Openda .
Medina took over Fofana's very good curled center but his header was off target (51').
This offensive awakening clearly blew up the Bollaert stadium as soon as the locker room returned and above all dictated the scenario for the second half.
Florian Sotoca completed 24 of his 27 passes, playing the role of creator wonderfully as he launched his teammates deep.
Scorer, Seko Fofana was once again essential in the creation and offensive animation, well helped by Openda who combined effectively with his other cronies in the Blood and Gold attack.
Gifted in the big leagues
Established by Bruno Genesio in place of Gaetan Laborde, Désiré Doué was the only player inspired by Stade Rennais in the first period.
The young Rennais landed a big powerful shot from the left which ended in the gloves of Samba (25th), one of the only two Breton shots in the first act.
The 17-year-old made Medina and Machado dizzy on several occasions, even resulting in mood swings for the two Lensois (35th).
In the weak Rennes performance, Doué appeared as the glimmer of hope for the collective.
In the first period, he won six of his nine duels.
FLOPS
An uninspiring first act
23 minutes.
This is the time it took before one of the two teams attempted the first strike of the game.
Whether Rennes or Lens, the inspiration was close to nothing with 0.09 xg (expected goals) for the Sang et Or, and 0.04 for the Rouge et Noir.
The offensive animation remained quite weak without any real clear chance or even interesting opportunity.
The intensity was present, the application also, but the attempts did not lead to anything concrete.
A sad first period for two candidates for Europe.
Terrier symbol of Rennes failure
At the break, Martin Terrier had only touched eleven balls, with a majority in midfield to play in deflection and very few possessions close to the opposing surface.
This statistic demonstrates and symbolizes the glaring lack of attacking impact of the Rennes striker used to playing heavyweight in the Genesio collective.
Despite a few attempts in the second act, including a shot that was too crossed in the 61st minute, Terrier was never the offensive conductor, succeeding only 60% of his passes and scoring thirteen lost balls.
He was the symbol of the failure of the Rouge et Noir and especially of the very weak offensive copy.
