For the fans of Israeli basketball, the name Leroy 'Shaq' Buchanan may not mean much, but for professionals in the United States and the mice of the NBA's development league, this is one of the most exciting and talented players who have played in the league in the last three years.
In his first and exclusive interview with Israel Hayom, the guard talks about his time in Memphis' subsidiary team, the responsibility of being a young father, his childhood alongside Ja Mornet, the squad built in the heart of the colony and his exciting and unique style of play.
Welcome to Israel, how was your summer?
"The summer was great for me. I played in the Vegas summer league and I was privileged to be the leader and the most experienced player of my team there, so I got the opportunity to work on my leadership. Now I come here and get to learn about European basketball and started a new and special path in my career."
How are you acclimatizing in Israel so far?
"Great, it's a wonderful country. It's a little too hot, but other than that it's amazing here. The attitude towards Americans is great, my teammates received me great and helped me feel at home."

How did you start playing basketball?
"I started at a very young age. My father and mother played basketball so it flowed through my veins and passed through my blood. At the end of elementary school I started playing basketball professionally and from there I took off."
Tell us a little about yourself.
"I am 25 years old, starting my fourth season as a professional basketball player. This is my first season outside the United States and I am excited about the experience. I have a 5-year-old daughter, my whole world. She makes me get up every morning, she is my reason to get on the court and fight. Thanks to her, I I take myself and my career in the most professional way possible so that I can take care of her and provide for her."
You were a star in the development league for three years. Why did you decide to leave and sign in Israel?
"I wanted to change my routine a bit, learn about European basketball and life outside the United States. I played for three years in the development league, I did my best and I felt that now is the time for me to go on a new path and a new experience in my career."

How do you feel about the squad that was built here this summer?
"The coach and the professional team have put together a special group of players here. We will have a team that plays at a very high pace. You will see a very exciting style of play from us, a lot of threes and the rings are on your way."
What are your expectations from the team?
"We will have to take it step by step. We will soon start practice games and learn to understand ourselves. Once everyone gets to know each other the sky is the limit for us."
What is the goal you have set for yourself for the upcoming season?
"To continue and improve as a player, to take advantage of my stay overseas to learn about new styles of play and meet new people."

How would you describe your playing style?
"A lot of dunks, a lot of steals. I'm very proud of my defensive game, expect to see me grab a lot of balls for the players and bring a special energy to the court."
Is being the king of baskets in the Israeli league a goal for you?
"My college coach taught me that the player should follow the path of the team. Whatever they need from me, I will do."

, is it the dream to return there?
"For every player the dream is to be in the NBA. I was privileged to be there for a short time, I learned from it and now I'm ready for my next challenge."
Who is the best player you played with?
"Ja Morant".
You talked about the preparation game. What is the importance of this to you?
"I'm proud of my defense, it gets me into the game and helps me get baskets easily. The more balls I grab and get my team more chances to score, the greater our chance of winning."
You talked about your friend Ja Morant, tell us a little about him.
"We were together in college, we grew up together and we've been best friends ever since. Our chemistry and our friendship off the court and on the court has always been special."
What do you like to do off the field?
"I like playing computer games and especially talking to my daughter in video calls."

"There is tough competition, but I will choose myself."
