Solitaire du Figaro: "Two rookie victories are good, we have to do the 3rd stage now", announces Pirouelle

Arrived at night on the line in Royan, after 635 miles of ride, the first three of the second stage of the Solitaire du Figaro expressed themselves at will by placing their feet on the pontoons. Verbatim.

Guillaume Pirouelle (Normandy Region) arrived at 6:28:26 in first position:

I'm very happy.

I knew deep down that I could do it.

Afterwards, it's another thing to succeed in doing so.

There, I was in on it from the start.

But each time, like on the first stage, there was a lot of change of leader, it often came back from behind.

It's always a little complicated but I didn't give up until the end, and we'll have to do the same on the third!

It's more in my character to control what happens a little, and I don't really like it when it goes all over the place.

In any case, we cannot control what others do.

In fact, I didn't even see them at the AIS, they tried their strategy like on the first stage except that this time we stayed ahead, so that's good and I'm happy!

I'm pretty thoughtful and I

try not to make the same mistakes twice, even if it's not easy in our sport that's the whole point.

Two rookie wins is good, we have to do the third step now!

I think I slept less than in the first stage, we had tougher and more random conditions.

In a few hours, I think I'm going to be really burnt out!

Afterwards we have three days of recuperation which are not going to be too many.

Achille Nebout (Amarris-Primeo Energie), arrived at 6:31:45 in second position:

“I really went to get it very very far this podium, it was hard, very complete and very varied with still reversals of situation, regroupings.

I spent most of my time in the top three/four, so it would have been hard not to get there.

I am really too, too happy!

The battle with Guillaume (Pirouelle - Normandy Region) was really nice last night, and he is a magnificent winner!

I find that at the beginning at any rate upwind I didn't try any big options but I was quite a leader in my decisions, especially on the tacks.

As the weather was very uncertain at the end of the course, I didn't really know what to do.

From the moment we doubt, I'm not someone who takes me too far from the fleet, I find it really risky.

On the other hand, yesterday, as soon as I felt that I had to head south to catch the new wind, I nevertheless gave myself the means to do so, I moved away from the group a little and it worked well.

I think there are going to be gaps because there was a little distance in the fleet.

We'll see what happens after that, there is still a third stage where a lot of things will still happen.

I'm happy to have got back into the game in this way on this stage.

This is the most accomplished stage in a Solitaire du Figaro.

I sailed really well from start to finish and maybe I could have jibed her if I had gybed three minutes earlier this morning, but other than that it was great!

Tom Laperche (Région Bretagne-CMB Performance), arrived at 6 h 44' 14'' in third position:

"

It was a good stage and I'm happy to arrive because it lasted a long time.

There were many reversals of situation, as always.

It was amazing.

Sometimes you wonder a little what you are doing there and if the regatta starts 12h00 before the finish or 24h00 before the finish, often that would almost be enough!

I thought the Channel tour was going to skim the fleet a bit, we had created a bit of distance but we all got together again in southern Brittany yesterday morning.

We were the first three to pick up the offshore wind by heading south.

We had a good tack, I tried to slide for a while to try to pass them and then I stopped in a soft spot.

On the last night the wind was weak and very unstable in strength and direction,

the sails had to be trimmed a lot, otherwise the boat was really stopped, and the sea was not very easy.

This requires setting the boat up properly.

I would like to congratulate Guillaume and Achille!

This one, you shouldn't miss it, now there is still a big stage, with a round trip in the Bay of Biscay and when you see what has happened so far there is nothing in fact at all.
