History: The men's water polo team qualified for the crossover stage of the European Championship Israel today

The players did lose to Hungary 23:4, but advanced to the crossover stage after finishing third at home


Israel's men's water polo team made history this morning (Friday) after qualifying for the crossover stage of the European Championship, in its first appearance in the tournament and will be among the 12 best on the continent.

The Blue and Whites did lose to the current European champion and the bronze medal holder from the Tokyo Olympic Games, the Hungarian team, but they finished in third place at home and on Sunday they will play in the crossover game, the winner of which will qualify for the quarterfinals.

Later today, Israel will know who it will face.  

The game that opened the last day of games in the men's group stage started as expected with the control of the Hungarian team, which took a 0:4 lead which it kept until the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Israel scored two beautiful goals by Itamar Kolodani and Gal Chaimovich, the Hungarians did not stop offensively and at halftime the scoreboard showed 11:2.

The third quarter also continued under the control of the European champions and it ended with a score of 17:3, with the Israeli goal scorer scoring the outstanding player of the previous game, Rony Gross.

In the last quarter, Hungary scored six more times, Rony Gross added his second goal of the game and the final score was 23:4.

Tomorrow (14:00) the women's team will meet Serbia for the last match in the group stage, when a win will send them to the quarter-finals.
