The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced today (Friday) that it rejects the appeal of the Iranian Judo Association, and confirmed the decision of the Disciplinary Committee of the World Judo Federation (IJF) to suspend the Iranian judokas for four years.
Already in September 2019, the IJF decided to suspend the Iranians, after banning the judoka Saeed Molai from competing against Sagi Muki in the World Championship, when at the time it was stated that "the World Judo Federation continues to protect the human values and rights of all its members, with special emphasis on rights the athletes, and emphasizes his commitment to fight against any type of discrimination in the industry."
But then the decision was for an unlimited time, which resulted in the first appeal by the Iranians in March of last year, which was accepted and led the IJF to convene and determine a four-year framework, which should end on September 17, 2023.
According to sources in the industry, if the Iranians' policy does not change before the original deadline, the World Judo Association is expected to convene again and extend their suspension for another four years, which will prevent their participation in the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
As you may remember, Moulay defected from his country following the affair and after seeking asylum in Germany moved to represent the Mongolian national team.
In February of last year he came to Israel and won the silver medal in the Tel Aviv Grand Slam.
