The DFB women also won their final World Cup qualifier.

There was an 8-0 (3-0) win against Bulgaria in Plovdiv.

Germany finished first in Group H with 27 points, Bulgaria failed to win a point in ten games and finished last.

Since the team of coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg was already qualified after the 3-0 win in Turkey, one person was the focus of attention: For the first time since the 2019 World Cup, Almuth Schult was guarding the goal of the DFB women.

In the past three years she had given birth to twins and had injured herself several times.

She had spent the European Championship 2022 in England as a representative of the German number one, Merle Frohms, without a minute on the bench.

She hardly had to intervene in front of just 200 spectators in the Lokomotiv Stadium.

Angel City FC's new keeper was challenged for the first time in the 43rd minute, stopping a dangerous move by the hosts.

At this point, the German team, which had changed ten positions in the starting eleven, was 1-0 in the lead thanks to Bundesliga top scorer Lea Schüller (35th).

Even before the break, the EM runners-up by Laura Freigang (44th) and again Schüller (45th + 1).

Schüller and Freigang hit three times

In the second half, the overwhelmed Bulgarians conceded more goals: Schüller scored for the third time (52'), her club colleague Sydney Lohmann from Bayern Munich increased to 5:0 (54').

Freigang's second goal made it 6-0 (64').

After a foul on Sara Däbritz, Svenja Huth converted the penalty to make it 7-0 (81st).

In the 87th minute, Freigang also scored a hat trick – 8:0.

The Germans had already won the first leg 7-0 (4-0).

The final round of the 9th FIFA Women's World Cup is scheduled to take place in Australia and New Zealand from 20 July to 20 August 2023.
