Porsche's entry into the Formula 1 racing team Red Bull of world champion Max Verstappen has burst.
The German sports car manufacturer announced this after negotiations on Friday.
"Both companies have come to the joint conclusion that these talks will not be continued," Porsche said in a statement.
However, VW subsidiary Porsche made it clear that entry into the premier class of motorsport is generally not ruled out.
With the changes to the regulations from the 2026 season, the racing series will remain “an attractive environment for Porsche that will continue to be observed”.
From then on, the hybrid engines will be operated with 100 percent sustainable fuel.
The combustion engine in the unit should only contribute 50 percent of the power, the rest is electric.
About two weeks ago, VW subsidiary Audi announced that it would be entering the market in less than four years.
The bone of contention in the negotiations was the decision-making power that Porsche would have had if it had taken over shares in the racing team.
"Red Bull has always been an independent team, that was one of our strengths," said team boss Christian Horner recently on the sidelines of the Dutch Grand Prix: "Our ability to make quick decisions is part of our DNA.
We are not a company-run organisation, and that remains an absolute requirement for the future.« Potential partners would »decide whether they want to participate«, albeit on the terms of the Red Bull team.
Apparently that wasn't enough for Porsche.
»The premise was always a partnership at eye level, which includes not only an engine partnership but also the team.
This could not be realized,” the statement said.
