Champions League: Paris SG and OM qualified if...

2022-10-13T09:51:35.506Z

Respectively first and second in their group, the Parisians and the Marseillais are on track to reach the round of 16. Maybe even from the next day of the group stage.

France may well have two representatives in the knockout stage of the Champions League.

First in Group H, with eight points, tied with Benfica Lisbon, Paris Saint-Germain are in very good shape.

Indeed, its two other competitors, namely Juventus Turin and Maccabi Haifa, are relegated to five units.

It would therefore take an incredible combination of circumstances for the men of Christophe Galtier not to see the round of 16.

Concretely, if they were to win against the Israeli club, in two weeks, the Red and Blue would officially validate their ticket for the rest of the competition.

They could also achieve this by picking up the point of the draw if, at the same time, the Old Lady does not leave Lisbon with a victory.

For Olympique de Marseille, the equation is a little more complex.

After a difficult start to the competition, marked by two losses in a row, the players of Igor Tudor were able to raise the bar by winning twice against Sporting Portugal;

they can now legitimately hope to qualify for the round of 16.

But the task promises to be difficult for the Phocaeans as Group D still seems very open.

To put it simply, all the teams still have a chance to snatch their ticket for the rest of the competition, but Tottenham and the Canebière club, respectively first and second in the standings, are clearly the best placed.

There is one (only) scenario in which the Olympians get their qualification for the C1 knockout stage in two weeks.

To do this, the Spurs would have to win, at home, their confrontation against the Portuguese formation and that the Marseillais leave Germany with the three points.

In this way, they would be guaranteed to finish, at least, in second place in the standings thanks to their two victories against Sporting Portugal.

In the event of different results, it will also be necessary to wait for the last day of the group stage to know the fate of Mattéo Guendouzi and his partners.
