Three Freisinger clubs are pulling together when it comes to girls' soccer.

The founding of the U15 team is said to have been just the beginning.

Freising

– SG Eichenfeld, SC Freising and SV Vötting have left the club boundaries behind.

Together they offer girls a perspective that has not existed in Freising for a long time.

The founding of the U15 junior team is said to have been just the beginning.

The idea of a girls' soccer team had been haunting the large district town for a long time.

Because the young athletes have a problem: After the D youth they lack the perspective.

Continuing to play with the boys is only possible with special permission.

In addition, their physical development makes it increasingly difficult for them to keep up with their male colleagues.

As a result, many girls stop playing football altogether.

The squad quickly grew to 16 girls

This would probably have happened to some players of the Freisinger clubs.

"The girls want to play, but we couldn't offer them anything," said Gerhard Wimmer, department head at SG Eichenfeld.

But between the SBU and SC Freising, the idea of establishing girls' football in Freising in the long term matured last year.

Four players from the former U14 of the SCF and five Eichenfeld juniors joined forces.

Later, SV Vötting was also brought on board - and through further newcomers the squad has grown to 16 girls.

"We use the basis of the individual clubs, structures and places are sufficiently available," emphasizes Wimmer.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

That's how training started in March, with some of the girls also kicking off the boys' playing time to the end.

At the beginning of the new 2022/23 season, the team was finally registered as a syndicate for the round of points, in which it can start as a team of nine thanks to the Norwegian model.

And here, too, the three clubs pull together: the home games are played alternately with the members of the game community.

The cohesion in the team is particularly noteworthy.

Joint activities such as going out to eat and watching the women's European Championship final have also welded the group together.

In addition, coach Josef Gangkofer praises the initiative of the girls, some of whom he already knew from his time as U14 coach at the sports club.

A team council was set up within a very short time - and a new name for the team was also needed: The juniors see themselves as a unit - and this is how the idea came about to start as "Freising United".

The commitment also continues in youth work: Four players train the F youth of SC Freising, regardless of their own club affiliation, and show the younger ones that girls can play football really well.

Promising start to the round with points

The U15 team led by coach Josef Gangkofer and assistant coach Markus Müller has already proven this several times: First, Freising United won two friendlies and then they secured third place in a summer tournament in Altenerding.

Everyone was excited about the start of the league game - and it was extremely promising: At the start there was a respectable win with the 4:4 at FC Schwaig.

This was followed by a 2-1 win over TSV Eching - and most recently there was even a 4-0 win against SpVgg Altenerding II. So it looks like the team could play a good role in the group in its first season to play.

"But it's much more important that everyone has fun, gets to know the team sport properly and is there for each other," emphasizes Coach Gangkofer, who also wants to develop the players individually.

You train on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Luitpoldanlage stadium.

Interested girls are always welcome.

In the long term, the clubs want to promote women's football in Freising and, in addition to a U15, also have a U13, U17 and maybe even a joint women's team.

"It would be great if the sparks jumped over the women's European Championship, because football is a beautiful sport," says Gangkofer, who is still looking for a supervisor.

"And maybe the next Lena Oberdorf will be found in Freising," adds SBU department head Wimmer.

Freising United squad:
