PSG: more than 300 million euros in losses for the 2021-2022 financial year, far beyond forecasts

2022-10-13T16:41:12.101Z

PARISIAN INFO. According to our information, the capital club recorded 300 to 350 million euros in losses for the 2021-2022 financial year.

For the third time in a row, the losses recorded by PSG over the season are measured in tens of millions of euros.

After the minus 124 million euros for the 2019-2020 season, the minus 224 million euros for the 2020-2021 season, the total climbs to more than 300 million for the 2021-2022 financial year.

A figure which will be confirmed by the public reports of the DNCG within several months but which, according to certain sources, are even approaching the 350 million deficit.

This would greatly exceed the forecasts presented to the financial policeman of French football in June 2021.

Concretely, PSG is still paying for the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the drop in ticketing revenue, which accumulates year after year.

But the club also pays its payroll and its sports policy: too many players under contract and too high emoluments.

Points to be corrected on the current season so as not to risk new sanctions.

800 million euros budget for 2022-2023

At the beginning of September, PSG was fined 10 million euros by UEFA (with a reprieve of 55 million) for non-compliance with the rules of financial fair play for the 2021-2022 season.

An agreement was signed with the European body in proof of the good faith of the club and its desire to improve the situation as quickly as possible.

Losses above 300 million euros are therefore not a new subject for the capital club.

Among the positive points: the degreasing of players started this summer on the transfer market.

Many loans (Icardi, Paredes, Herrera, Diallo…), of course, but 55 million euros in sales (Kehrer, Areola, Gueye) or free starts (Di Maria, Rafinha), too.

PSG knows that the wage bill must still be reduced and believes that it is on the right track.

And even says he is calm about his ability to respect the agreement signed with UEFA.

To compensate for its new expenses and, in particular, the new contract signed by Kylian Mbappé until June 2024 (plus an optional year), the Parisian leaders are counting on a budget of 800 million euros for the 2022-2023 financial year.

If this figure is reached, it will lower the total losses of the past season.
