Questioned as part of the program Complément d'Enquête, broadcast this Thursday evening on France 2, relating to the awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar, the president of the French Federation minimizes the difficult living conditions of the employees of the Hôtel des Bleus for the World Cup.

Footage shot by hidden camera shows overcrowded rooms, unsanitary toilets, flouted social rights and images of the living conditions of migrant workers in Qatar.

Some workers report working with virtually no rest days or overtime pay.

The president of the French Football Federation minimizes the difficult living conditions of the employees of the Hotel des Bleus: “

We will discuss with the hotel manager.

We're going to show him those pictures.

It is not unsolvable!

It's just a lick of paint!

(…) We still have time to fix that.

(...) I can show you lots of images like that in lots of countries... Even maybe not very far from here

”.

The documentary, broadcast on Thursday by France Television, led the French Football Federation to announce an on-site verification mission, about a month before the 2022 World Cup. These accommodations are located in the "

Industrial Area

", a peripheral district, a "

place strictly forbidden to cameras

”, devoid of green space and transport infrastructure, describe the journalists.

Solicited by Complément d'Enquête, the FFF announced, in a letter of October 2 produced by the show, the dispatch of a "

mission

" on site "

mid-October

" and assured that it had already "

implemented a series verifications concerning the six service providers under contract with the hotel group, base camp

of the France team, in Doha.

Qatar is the subject of numerous criticisms from NGOs on respect for fundamental freedoms and human rights, in particular those of foreign workers, particularly from Africa and South Asia, who make up the majority of its population.
