Vrigil van Dijk, on assignment
The Liverpool defender succeeded in his mission: Prevent the cyborg Erling Haaland from scoring a 16th league goal.
Liverpool's number 4 was flawless and left very little space for the Manchester City forwards.
Special mention for his decisive intervention in the 81st minute where the former Southampton player cut the trajectory of the ball on a good cross and prevented Haaland from equalizing.
Thanks to this great victory, Virgil van Dijk remains undefeated when he starts a Premier League game at Anfield.
Just that !
Mohamed Salah, decisive scorer
Placed in the half-space between his usual right wing and the axis, Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of the game in a high-tension match.
The Egyptian, determined and not stingy with effort, started the match well even if his lack of altruism could have cost him dearly.
In the 50th minute, he preferred to challenge Ederson rather than slip his ball to Jota who was alone.
Fortunately for Klopp's men, the number 11 manages to catch up in the 76th minute with a fantastic control that erases Cancelo and a nice shot to deceive Ederson.
A good match for the one who had not scored in the league since August 22.
De Bruyne, master of the game
Despite the defeat, the Manchester midfielder was once again excellent, especially in the first period.
With 3 key passes the Belgian could have finished the match with one or more passes if his crosses for Haaland were better received.
In the tough second half, the former Chelsea stood up to the end even when fatigue was felt.
FLOPS
Erling Haaland, muzzled by the defense
For only the second time in 10 Premier League games the cyborg failed to score a goal.
Interesting in the air where he won all his duels, Haaland fell on a very good defense and a great Alisson who released his beautiful shot from the left in the 64th.
In the game, the former BVB striker did not help and this is probably where he still needs to improve.
Do not panic however, he will have the opportunity to catch up next week against Brighton, 7th in the championship.
Cancelo, at fault on the goal
Complicated match for Joao Cancelo.
It had however started well with interesting offensive movements in particular an excellent cross for Foden in the 20th minute.
Defensively, however, it was more complicated.
At fault on Salah's goal where he defends badly, the right side missed his match and will have to do much better, especially against the big teams.
Guardiola's late changes
Tonight Pep Guardiola made only one change: Julian Alvarez for Ilkay Gündogan in the 89th minute.
The Catalan coach should probably have made changes earlier and why not offer playing time to Jack Grealish, author of a good start to the season, or to Riyad Mahrez, scorer on the last day against Southampton.
