If you want to perform well on the pitch, you have to be sober.

Long nights are poison for the footballer.

But in Munich there is a doctor who promises: “Goodbye tomcats!

Don't waste your day in bed!

Julian Maurer enters the practice.

They have the “Hangover” infusion put in at Vitadrips to be fit again for the Oktoberfest as quickly as possible.

Maurer was a competitive athlete and played for FC Ismaning in the regional league.

Can it also make a footballer perform well again after drinking too much alcohol?

As a doctor, you have developed an infusion to combat hangovers, with which you promise that celebrities can party every day at the Oktoberfest.

Does that also apply to footballers?

(laughs) No.

That's exaggerated.

I studied sports science and medicine and dealt intensively with nutrition.

The longer one deals with this area, the more absurd it becomes.

Every expert says something different.

That's why I mixed everything myself and tested it on myself.

Everyone needs fluids and antioxidants during a hangover.

When alcohol is broken down, many free radicals are produced.

These have a cell-damaging effect.

To break them down, the body needs vitamins.

The body gets all of this back through the infusion.

Nothing can happen.

Any excess is excreted through the kidneys.

Then you went partying as a footballer and analyzed whether you were delivering the usual performance after an infusion in training?

I haven't done that during my time at FC Ismaning.

Unfortunately, I don't have time for football.

But I still do a lot of sports and then put the needle in (laughs).

I wanted to experience for myself how the infusion works.

Julian Maurer: “A doctor cannot reset the body.

But an infusion can speed up recovery.”

What does a footballer do to his body with an intensive visit to the Wiesn?

When you have a hangover, a hormone in the brain is inhibited in the hypothalamus.

The body then loses a lot of water.

The blood gets thicker, the circulation doesn't work as well anymore.

The meninges are irritated and I get a headache.

Many free radicals are formed, which accelerate the aging process in the body and can trigger diseases.

These are the typical symptoms after a night of drinking.

As a doctor, I thought to myself: What can I do to counteract this?

I can give the body a lot of fluid and antioxidants via an infusion, which try to neutralize the free radicals.

Why do you have to insert a needle for this?

Vitamins play an important role in the perfect diet.

How many vitamins are really still in the food?

The fruit and vegetables are harvested much too early due to the long transport routes.

There are also huge amounts of pesticides.

Many valuable substances are lost during cooking.

What we end up eating is low in vitamins.

As a competitive athlete, I dealt with supplements.

This is a billion-dollar business that promises a lot.

But the fact is: Many vitamins are lost during the digestive process.

The intestine can only absorb a fraction of the nutrients in the blood, the rest is excreted.

An infusion goes directly into the bloodstream via the vein.

This is the best way to provide your body with nutrients.

Can you make such a footballer fit again after a night of drinking?

A doctor cannot reset the body.

But an infusion can speed up recovery.

The athlete would definitely be more efficient afterwards.

But in practice this is out of the question.

According to the doping guidelines, a professional player can only get a certain amount of liquid per minute.

During his time at Manchester City, Samir Nasri received too much fluid via an IV after a hangover trip and was therefore suspended for 18 months.

med Julian Maurer, doctor, sports scientist and former competitive athlete: Julian Maurer played for Ismaning in the regional league while studying medicine.

Then the amateur footballers run into the doctor's office?

The greatest demand is actually from the celebrities.

Infusions are already widespread in the USA.

I was last at a Wiesn event.

There were influencers with two million followers.

They're all super into it.

These are the best customers (laughs).

Every cell is supplied with blood.

This is why it is particularly interesting for women who want to look younger for longer.

But also for people who pay attention to a healthy diet.

Do you become a doctor to develop a cure for a hangover?

As a doctor, I would like to work prophylactically.

By the time diseases such as diabetes develop, it is already too late.

As soon as the first symptoms appear, vessels are already defective.

Then there is very little a doctor can do.

In addition to the psyche, dietary supplements are a very important pillar in prophylaxis.

Is it dangerous to exercise with residual alcohol?

The body is smart enough to send the right signals early on.

You become nauseous, vomit or have a severe headache and cannot continue playing.

I would never ask my body to stand hungover on the pitch.

The risk of injury is much higher.

Metabolism doesn't work properly.

As an athlete, I act much more slowly.

It's irresponsible to your own body.

"Sweat out" the alcohol - does that make sense?

Visiting the Wiesn is a team-building measure.

Should footballers order a non-alcoholic one there?

In top-class sport, nuances decide on top sporting performance.

Alcohol is poison for the body.

In amateur football, going to the Oktoberfest together can have a positive impact on performance.

For the psyche and the good mood within a team, an evening at the beer table can often bring more than the third training session.

"Sweating out" the alcohol is a widespread training measure.

Are running units useful?

no

I'm just losing more water.

If you only analyze the biochemical reactions, you should urgently advise against sports.

But I believe that exercise is primarily good for the athlete's psyche.

The circulation gets going and the organism is moved.

The beer right after the game is part of it for many athletes.

Is the poison for regeneration?

So many things are happening in the body at the same time.

Of course, it would be best not to drink.

Then the body can concentrate fully on energy production and regeneration.

A beer reduces the body's performance in this process.

Can you give an insider tip on how an athlete can regenerate as quickly as possible after a visit to the Oktoberfest?

Liquid is always good.

If you drink a liter of water before you go to sleep or take in electrolytes or antioxidants, you are helping your body.

But the best and most effective thing is still: Don't drink anything.
