Women's World Cup 2023: Light group and location advantage for the DFB team

The opponents of the DFB team at the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand have been determined.

Germany does not have to change countries.

Auckland – Less than nine months before the start of the Women's World Cup in New Zealand and Australia (July 20 to August 20, 2023), the groups for the tournament were drawn.

National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg can not only look forward to comparatively easy group opponents, but also benevolently notes that all potentially possible games will take place in Australia.

DFB-Team: Women meet Colombia, Morocco and South Korea

The team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg will have to deal with feasible opponents in the group phase of the 2023 World Cup.

While the DFB team is in third place in the FIFA world rankings, the teams from Morocco, South Korea and Colombia are some far behind.

Only South Korea is within striking distance in 17th place. Colombia (27th) and Morocco (76th), as far as the world rankings are meaningful, are worlds apart from the German players.

For the Moroccan players it is even the first participation in a World Cup, which will take place for the first time with 32 participating teams.

However, the team of French coach Reynald Pedros should not be underestimated.

The Moroccans took second place at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

They were beaten 2-1 by the triumphant South Africans in the final.

Germany avoids tough opponents and benefits from Group H

Even if no opposing team should be underestimated, the DFB team could have been hit much harder.

A group with Brazil or Denmark and Olympic champion Canada would also have been possible.

The Brazilians are a potential opponent in the round of 16 alongside France.

Due to the placement in Group H, the lucky constellation for Germany is that all German games will be played in Australia in the possible further course of the tournament.

They will meet Morocco in the opening game of the DFB-Elf in Melbourne on July 24th.

The finale, the intended grand finale, takes place about 900 kilometers away in Sydney.

There could also be a clash with the reigning world champions from the USA.
