Vinicius Jr., the Brazilian player of the European champions, calls for harshly punishing unruly fans: "It will make them suffer the results and reflect on their actions"

Real Madrid player Vinicius Jr. claims that fans found guilty of racist abuse should be banned from stadiums for life.

The Brazilian, who will take part in next month's World Cup in Qatar, was the victim of abuse in September when Atletico Madrid fans were filmed chanting racial slurs at him outside the Wanda Metropolitano stadium ahead of the Madrid derby.

"If you hurt other people, you have to pay," Vinicius told Brazilian media on Sunday.

"It's hard to say that racism in football will end if so many people still do it, but I like to believe that there are more good people than bad. All racist people must pay in some way. If they like watching football, then these Atlético Madrid fans must not be allowed to set foot again in the stadium. It will make them suffer the results and reflect on their actions."

Both Atlético and the La Liga captains condemned the abuse directed at Vinicius as Atlético said they were cooperating with the police to identify the abusers.

Pele, Neymar and other top Brazilian figures defended Vinicius that week after a sports commentator on a Spanish soccer show said the Brazilian disrespected his opponents with his celebrations, comparing his behavior to a monkey.

Vinicius released an emotional statement in a short video in response to what he called "xenophobia and racism," saying he "will not stop dancing."

Real Madrid issued a statement supporting the 22-year-old and said they would take legal action against the media personality.
